Experience the lively folk music of Veracruz, Mexico, during a special celebration of Mexican Independence Day. Santa Paula native John Robles and Chucumite, a quartet skilled in ‘son jarocho,’ the traditional music of southern Veracruz, will perform. Alongside them, Ventura County Poet Laureate Luz Maria Espinosa will share two poems in honor of the occasion. Chucumite, known for their mastery of Veracruz folk instruments, promises an authentic musical experience. Special guest Alexandro D. Hernández, an ethnomusicologist and Chicana/o Studies professor, will offer a critical perspective on the music’s cultural significance. Don’t miss this opportunity to revel in Veracruz’s vibrant culture.
